Monterey to Portland

Visited my friend who lives in Monterey and then did the long drive back to Portland. Here’s some beer!

Right in downtown Monterey, Alvarado Street Brewery! Doing that hazy IPA shit that everyone is all excited about. Best beer they had was the milk stout with coffee on nitro though.

Of course I had to stop by Aptos St BBQ. They do brisket right here.

Hmm, I swear that’s the same artwork that you find on a beer label. The brewery is right behind me isn’t it.

Yep! Sante Adairius Forest for the Trees! One of my favorite IIPAs and something you can only get in growlers or on draft. I also only lasted about 5 minutes here before some random guy I didn’t recognize called me out by name. God I wish I was better at names and faces, I wouldn’t have nearly as many awkward moments!

10 Barrel, just because I haven’t been to the original taproom before. Cloudchaser IIPA is pretty good, and named after the brand new chairlift at Mt. Bachelor!

I know it isn’t beer, but I went through Bend on my way back from Monterey so I could check out Smith Rock. This place is absolutely beautiful, I can’t wait to come back here in summer and hike around!

Beer & Drunk Jenga

Lesson to be learned: use a table that doesn’t slide easily, otherwise games shall be very short.

Evil Twin Double Barrel Jesus: Oh hey, this batch is waaaaaaaay better than the last batch I’ve had. It carries a lot of fudge and chocolate, rather than burnt cardboard and dead mice. Well, maybe not those things, but it wasn’t good.

Three Magnets Howards Blend: Don’t know anything about this brewery, but it is pretty tasty.

10 Barrel Cucumber Crush: OH MY GOD THIS IS IN CANS NOW?!!!!!! I’M SO SCREWED.

IMAG2259

Commons Trillium: This beer was pretty tasty when it was first released, but now that it has had time to age it is really, really good. Commons beers always seem to get much better after 6 months of sitting around in the bottle.

Wicked Weed Chocolate Covered Black Angel: Really interesting nose, since it actually smells like chocolate covered cherries. Much, much better than regular Black Angel

IMAG2261

Tired Hands Rose: THERE IS A CAT ON THE CAN! BEST BEER I’VE EVER HAD IN THE HISTORY OF EVER A++++++++++

IMAG2262

Hill Farmstead Dry Hopped Arthur: Very tasty, but I like regular Arthur better. That being said, it’s a fun thing that the brewery should do from time to time, just to keep things fresh.

This one was weird.

Double Stuff Stout? On Nitro?

Why yes, 10 Barrel’s Double Stuff Stout was on nitro, and I’m a sucker for big stouts on nitro.

Tastes like chocolate milk with vanilla. Solid.

I don’t care if it isn’t berliner weather.

Cucumber Crush is still incredible. Also reminds me that I need to go to 10 Barrel more often. ABInbev acquisition be damned.

Really tasty and cheap IPAs are great.

For $9 a six pack at your local grocery store, you can’t really beat 10 Barrel’s Joe IPA.

This trend ain’t so bad.

I really could get used to the crowler craze. 32 oz. of draft only beer to go? Well sign me up.

This Joe Guy is Pretty Awesome

IMAG0124

This is Joe’s IPA from 10 Barrel. I don’t know who Joe is, but this IPA is incredible. Tons and tons of orange and lemon zest in here.

Pearl IPA is just as good, but is also more bitter and angry….kind of like that guy’s face you see there.
