Man I’m tired.

Fuck fatigue, there are more important things to do, like drink craft beer. Let’s just gloss over the fact that I spent the last 25ish hours getting back home from Thailand.

I will say I’m out of practice, drank a Brother Soigne without taking a photo. Bad Sam.

Oh hey there.

Two box day, all from the same brewery!

Cute little box of tasty things, can’t wait to have this year’s version.

Da fuq.

People are bad influences.

Always wanting to drink beer, so much for being healthier in 2015!

De Garde Cafe Samson: I think my friend summed this one up pretty accurately, “it tastes like canned coffee in Asia”. C+

De Garde Maple Samson: Worlds better than Cafe Samson! Slightly tart, with very sweet maple flavors with a dash of bourbon. I wish this beer was just a big imperial stout instead of being a sour beer, because then it would be one of the best stouts out there. Unfortunately, due to the nature of brewing sour beers, De Garde won’t be able to make a non-sour beer unless they collaborate with someone and brew at their facility. B

Crooked Stave Petite Sour Blueberry: Much sweeter and less tart than De Garde’s Blu Bu or Imperial Blu Bu. This is very good, but I think this beer’s candy-like aspects make me lean towards De Garde’s offerings. Still very good though. B+/A-

New Glarus Serendipity: No, no I did not finish the glass of beer in this photo. It’s just straight jolly ranchers, but even sweeter. I can to give the rest of my glass to a girl, because girls love sweet shit. C+

Sante Adairius Cask Strawberry: This is way better than De Garde’s Imperial Strawberry Bu. That being said, we did get some band-aid flavors, most likely because we were looking to find that flavor in this beer. I’m convinced that strawberries should never be used in beer. B

Hill Farmstead Convivial Suarez: This beer is great, and it’s been a while since I’ve been able to try it. Hill Farmstead’s regular saisons are so good that I’m not sure if it’s worth paying 3 times the price to get one of their more special offerings. I’m excited to see what Suarez brews up when Wolves and People opens its doors, but I still think it’s dumb to have crowdfunded beer @ $30 a bottle or so before anyone has even tried the beer. Also, $30 in Oregon is hard to justify.

Imperial Hop Bu

Went to the release on Saturday, and had a great time before getting drunk and watching the Timbers tie against Chivas USA. Again.

De Garde Imperial Hop Bu: Doesn’t taste like it’s been hopped, but I guess that’s the point. Tastes like a mimosa! A+

De Garde 3S: If you don’t know what this is, you’re not important enough 🙂 It’s doing really nicely, can’t wait for this beer to be ready!

De Garde/Side Project Saison Desay – Chardonnay Barrel: Huge pineapple presence and big tartness has pretty much turned this saison into an american wild ale. Not that it’s a bad thing! A

Homebrew Peach Sour: Some guys brought this in, and it was awesome.

De Garde Biere de Garde: Yep. Lots of “de gardes” in this name.

Armand ‘4 Lente: Yeah….definitely a top 10 beer of all time for me. A++

Hill Farmstead Convivial Suarez: I really like hibiscus in saisons. It’s a great flavor to have and it makes the beer look pretty! I hope De Garde makes one with hibiscus soon!

Sours, Saisons, and Funk!

Yep, I repeated the BIF! I was in Las Vegas for work, and when I got back home I had a nice box waiting for me.

Tasting at the Commons

A couple people in our tasting group were doing in-person trades with a guy from California. Since they were getting together anyway, we decided to have a tasting!

Commons Boysenberry Porter: Pretty good, but probably not something I should get before a bottle share. It’s 10%

Oh, this is going to end well.

Block 15 should be jumping up and down with this kind of name copying.

Toppling Goliath never sticks to one design for their labels. This bottle happened to be their lager…it was lagery.

Old Matilda that my friend found in the back of his fridge. It was pretty tasty.

Cisco Cherry Woods: This was a pleasant surprise. I don’t know much about Cisco, but this had a nice cinnamon and cherry flavor to it. Almost like a diet version of Lou Pepe Kriek. A-

Perennial Fantastic Voyage: Not sure if I like coconut stouts…. B

Goose Island Bourbon County Proprietors: Okay, well it turns out I’m full of shit. This beer is incredible and is the best variant since Bourbon County Vanilla. Perfect amount of toasted coconut. Trade for this one, it is absolutely worth it. A+

Goose Island Bourbon County Backyard Rye: This on the other hand, is waaaaaay too sweet. B-

Midnight Sun Moscow 2011: Batch 1 Moscow is really good, I especially appreciate the dry and roasty aspects of this beer after having 2 Bourbon Counties in a row. A

Ale Apothecary Sahalien: This beer is fantastic, like a super sour Flora. However, there is a funny pickle smell to this beer, other than that, it’s flawless. A/A+

Central Water Fourteen: Don’t remember this one much. Whoops.

Alpine Duet: Love this palate cleanser!

Don’t remember this one either. My memory was lost along with that sailor.

De Garde Lee Noir: Fantastic Flanders beer. Sooo good. A

This tastes just like Maybelle. Mmmmm

Commons Eidolon: Maybe this beer isn’t fading after all…this bottle was completely different than the beer when it was fresh, but it was very nice. A-

Hill Farmstead Convivial Suarez: Delicious as always! A-/A

Russian River Framboise for a Cure: Very good framboise, might benefit from a bit of age though. A-

Toppling Goliath X-Hops: Really tasty…but I may have just been desperate for hoppy beer by this point.

Cigar City Big Sound: CCB does stout right.

I Love Vermont…

…and the traders there!
