More Beer and Climbing Videos

This is kind of a thing now, mostly because climbing videos are really interesting, but you can tune or tune out whenever you feel like it. No plot, no long action sequences, just something to have in the background that’s neat for the 30% of the time you’re actually watching it.

IMAG3743

Kunhenn American Imperial Stout: Definitely the best non-barrel aged stout I’ve had in recent memory. Might have to revisit Founders RIS to make sure.

IMAG3744

Hill Farmstead Madness & Civilization #1: Probably the best beer in the series. It smells boozy, but then tastes like chocolate and sweet, sweet bourbon. It’s wonderful.

IMAG3746

Hill Farmstead Society & Solitude #4: It has been a very long time since I’ve had this beer, and it’s a fantastic IIPA. Top 10 for sure, and right up there with the best from Alpine, Boneyard, and Barley Brown’s.

IMAG3747

De Garde Hose: That palate cleanser tho.

IMAG3748

Alesmith Kona Coffee Stout: Extremely tasty, with a sweeter coffee profile than Jamaican Blue coffee something something darkside. However, I wish it had some bourbon aspects to it….

IMAG3749

DONE!

IMAG3750(1)

The Rare Barrel: This beer is as good as the brewery name of this beer is bad. Fantastic beer, but I will always be bitter at The Rare Barrel for such a pretentious name. I also don’t like how they introduced a reserve society before anyone had even tried their beer (I’m looking at you, Wolves and Hype).

IMAG3751

Perennial Sump: I used to hate this beer, but this batch is actually really good! I approve and will actually consider seeking out more Perennial beers that don’t end with “Abraxas” and start with “BA”.

IMAG3752

Hill Farmstead Le Sarrasin: This is a fantastic beer, like a stronger, more technologically advanced Arthur. However, if only it had a more complex funky profile…

IMAG3753

Success! I had a tough time deciding which beer was better, but I think Le Sarrasin takes it. I don’t know, ask me tomorrow, I will have changed my mind a few times since then.

OUDE HOSE!

Some Birthday Drinking

My friend’s birthday was the other day, but he’s in the middle of a busy week at work, so we just cracked open a couple bottles and watched Anthony Bourdain’s Parts Unknown.

IMAG2632

Cantillon Lou Pepe Kriek: Not as much cherry presence as the 2014 Kriek I opened a while back, but this beer more than makes up for it with extra funk and barrel along with more cherry skins. A+

IMAG2633

Hill Farmstead Daybreak: Imperial Stout aged in Grand Mariner casks…so it’s pretty good. When I had this beer fresh, I could hardly taste the citrus. However, after 7 month or however long it’s been since this beer has been released, it has improved. I’m a big fan of it now. A

IMAG2634

Goose Island Bourbon County Barleywine: The weather is finally getting cold and rainy out, so it’s time to break out the heavy stuff!

IMAG2635

De Garde Black Raz Bu: De Garde absolutely kills it when all you want is a fruity sour beer. This is my favorite beer from them to date, just so jammy and delicious. I hope it picks up some more funk over time, I think De Garde’s beers simply aren’t that funky because they don’t spend a long time aging at the brewery. A+

IMAG2636

Better than Bourbon County Barleywine. ‘Nuff said.

Big Bottleshare

Went to my first bottleshare at Tin Bucket! It was arranged by some people on BeerAdvocate and I was lucky enough to be able to attend. Cool people, great beer, in a great spot. Couldn’t be more pleased.

IMAG1031

Alesmith Barrel Aged Speedway: Delicious as always! Crazy to think that I’ve had this beer a ton of times but never actually owned a bottle…A-/A

IMAG1033

Logsdon Peche ‘n Brett: This is the brand new batch, and while good…..it wasn’t as good as Fantasia. I’m really happy to try it, and quite happy that I only have one bottle. Front loading my purchases on Fantasia was a good idea. B+

IMAG1034

Bruery Mother Funker: Sour as hell, but more palatable than before! B

IMAG1035

Cascade Bottleworks XIV: Great beer, and doesn’t taste exactly the same as all the other Cascades! A

IMAG1036

Cigar City Lacto Guava Grove: I brought this one, and really had no idea if it was going to be any good, so I was a little nervous. Turns out it’s quite good! I with the weather was nice out because this beer would be a good lemonade substitute. B+/A-

IMAG1037

Drie Fonteinen Schaerbeekse Kriek: I love this beer as much as there are vowels in its name. Great kriek. A/A+

IMAG1038

Lost Abbey Duck Duck Gooze: I’ve had this a bunch lately….ain’t a bad thing. A

IMAG1039

DARKNESS

IMAG1040

Bo & Luke: Great label, pretty good beer.

IMAG1041

I brought this one, and it sucked. Boo. C-

IMAG1042

Funkwerks King: Really good initial sip, but got boring after a little bit.

IMAG1044

Upright Blend Love: One of Upright’s best offerings. I could drink this forever. A/A+

IMAG1045

Central Waters 16: Delicious, like candy soaked in bourbon. A/A+

IMAG1046

Oh man, we’re screwed.

IMAG1047

Kuhnhenn 4th Dementia and BA 4th Dementia: Love these beers. A/A+

IMAG1048

Russian River Consecration B3: Best bottle of Consecration that I’ve had…maybe bigger bottles is better? A

IMAG1049

Jester King Aurelian Lure: Great apricot sour, only West Ashely and Fou Foune are better for the style. A/A+

IMAG1050

Goose Island King Henry: I’ve had this bottle forever, and now it’s dead. On the bright side, this bottle was delicious and much better than the last couple of bottles I have tried at tastings. KH is honestly one of the best barleywines ever made. A+

IMAG1051 IMAG1052

Prairie and Pirate Bomb!: I enjoyed Prairie Bomb! more, the vanilla was just so good. A

IMAG1057

Drank bottles got drank.

More De Garde + Bottleshare

Release of Mulligan in bottles happened on Thursday, so I dropped in really quick before heading over to a bottleshare.

IMAG3446

Bottle of Mulligan on the left, Cranberry Bu Weisse on the right. I think batch 1 is better, but this new batch is still phenomenal.

Onwards to BeerMongers!

IMAG3447

Kuhnhenn Raspberry Eisbock: Way to start a tasting with the sweetest beer here you idiot. Ugh. It was tasty though, just too sweet for me.

IMAG3448

Bruery Bottleworks XII: WHERE ARE THE RASPBERRIES?! Other than that, tasty. B

IMAG3450

Hill Farmstead Birth of Tragedy: Just as good as always, the 8 months that this has been aging has really brought the coffee forward. I can taste it now! A

IMAG3451

More bottles arrived shortly after this was taken. Gotta love Thursdays?

IMAG3452

Fantome Extra Sour: A Fantome beer that doesn’t remind me of bacon?! WHAT?!  A

IMAG3453

Cantillon Gueuze 100% Lambic Bio: Always tasty. I was surprised how much better this beer was in comparison to the 375 ml bottles that I have opened in the past. A-/A

IMAG3454

Hangar 24 Bourbon Cru: Not bad, but nothing really special. B

IMAG3455

Dystopia is very generic.

IMAG3457

HOLY SHIT WHALES!!!!

Southampton Black Raspberry Lambic: Really damn good. Very savory for a raspberry sour (I wouldn’t call this one a lambic). Nice dry finish too. It trades ridiculously high, too high for what it taste like…..but we all know that taste doesn’t correlate to trade value. A+

IMAG3458

Crooked Stave Surette Reserva: Meh. C

IMAG3459

Crooked Stave Petite Sour with Hibiscus & Cinnamon: I love this beer. Too bad I don’t have any left. A-

IMAG3460

Goose Island King Henry: This beer has certainly dropped off a bit, but given that, it’s still quite good. I also think the original price sticker is a nice touch! B+/A-

IMAG3461

Upright Blend Love 2012: This is aging better than the newer, 2013 version. I love this beer. Shame to think that my last bottle is going to Guatemala. A

IMAG3462

Surly Darkness: This is what Dark Lord wants to be. A-

IMAG3463

Revolution 3 Year Beer: LOTS of rum in this one. B+

IMAG3464

Crooked Stave Origins: Very tasty, but I wish the label said, “Grand Cru” on it. A-

IMAG3465

Upright Lactovasilios: Not doing bad at all. I wish it was more sour though. B+/A-
