Machinima Nostaligia and beer

A few days ago a friend and I were talking about Red vs. Blue, a machinima series that was absolutely hilarious and filmed using Halo. So the next day we decided to watch the series again and bathe in the nostalgic feelings.

Block 15 Sticky Hands: This batch is fantastic, and doesn’t drink like an 8% beer at all. I also hear that regular cans are in the works? I’ll take Sticky Cans any day of the week!

Lawson’s Finest Liquids Sip of Sunshine: This is an old can, sooooooooo it pales in comparison to the super fresh Sticky Hands. Wasn’t even a fair fight, hops had faded a bit and it just wasn’t the same.

Block 15 Cassidy: Finally getting around to trying Block 15 beers from a few releases ago. This has a great funky nose that carries into the taste with a moderate amount of tartness. I really like this, it’s like a Block 15 sour had a child with an Upright sour.

Block 15 7th Anniversary: Okay, this is even better than Cassidy. Definitely more subtle and nuanced than the more aggressive Cassidy, which actually isn’t that aggressive in its own right.

OEC piece of crap: Yep, it’s terrible, just like my ability to manually focus a camera.

Prairie Pirate Noir: This is really good, and a good way to finally get into Stoutember for the night. Sweet and chocolatey with good bourbon presence.

Deschutes The Abyss 2010: God, this beer is still one of my favorite stouts, they just don’t make em like this anymore. Bitter dark chocolate with some oak and bourbon, but perfectly balanced. Stouts nowadays have gotten so much more aggressive in their flavor profiles, with big hits of one or two flavors, leaving well balanced stouts by the wayside. A+

Cycle Brewing Pallet #2: Not even close to 2010 Abyss. Not. Even. Close.

Casey Brett Loves Citra: OH THANK GOD THE STOUTS ARE OVER! Very tasty dry hopped sour btw.

Movie Night

Watched Interstellar and Dark Knight the other day while crushing some delicious beers.

IMAG0096

Lawson’s Sip of Sunshine: Very tasty, with lots of citrus up front.

IMAG0097

Hill Farmstead Flora Blue/Black: Apparently this beer suffers from some bottle variation, which has resulted in some bottles being really not good. Luckily for me, my bottle was tasty! Fruit presence is mild, but I think that is a by-product of just drinking a lot of De Garde. Finish is a little goofy, but overall a great beer. That being said, regular Flora is way better.

This Treehouse beer was delicious.

IMAG0099

IPA beer is IPA-ey.

IMAG0100

Apparently I can’t take photos in focus.

IMAG0101

Central Waters Bourbon Barrel Barleywine: A little boozy, but very tasty with lots of caramel and toffee.

IMAG0102

Troegs Barrel Aged Flying Mouflan: This is one of the best smelling beers in existence. It is also a really good barleywine, I would place it just behind Bourbon County Barleywine in terms of deliciousness.

IMAG0103

Hill Farmstead Brother Soigne: Palate Cleanser!

IMAG0105

Pelican Mother of All Storms: This beer is really underrated. It’s one of the best barleywines being made today.

IMAG0106

Goose Island King Henry: Well, shit. Really fantastic beer, but Mother of All Storms was just a tad bit better than this particular bottle of King Henry. This was a recent acquisition by a buddy, so we really don’t know how this bottle was stored for the last 4 years. My guess is someone’s smelly closet.

Best beer of the night. Also crushed my liver.

Post-climbing beer

Climbed like a monster on Saturday, so we went back and had a few beers while we all sat around and checked our hands for blisters.

IMAG2752

Lawson’s Finest Liquids Sip of Sunshine: Very citrusy, with not too much malts behind it. Reminds me a bit of Alpine, with a touch more bitterness.

IMAG2754

De Garde Imperial Vin Bu-Melange: Very good, first time I’ve ever had it. Grapes are very subtle, but it adds a nice bit of complexity to the base beer.

IMAG2755

De Garde Cherry Bu: This beer has aged wonderfully. I wish I had more!

IMAG2757

Stillwater Gose Gone Wild: Wild as in very sour for a Gose.
