Brews for New Avenues

One week late, but I’m finally sober enough to write about the main event at Brews for New Avenues.

However, things got pretty insane after Oysters and Geuze, so I was definitely riding the struggle bus.

Seriously.

Incredibly seriously.

A few moments of rest before I was assigned to help source water coolers for the event. Turns out the vendor who was going to bring water coolers fell through…jerks.

Okay, with nap time over, it was time to begin!

VIP members got stemware, bid numbers, tokens, a bumper sticker, and a T-shirt.

Some crazy stuff available at auction! I did not get a chance to take photos of the other two bottles in this set…

People were waiting in line for this keg, so I figured I would do the same.

It wasn’t long before I was put to work.

Yep, back to oyster duty.

It certainly had its perks though!

Work work work work work.

Hey look! People that were at my house the previous night! They are pretty cool people. Don’t mine Anne in the left photo, she’s just jealous.

Another year, another great event! Almost $240,000 raised for at risk youth! Can’t wait for the next one!

I did win a bottle from the auction, but that’s another post.

Late Birthday Beers

I was a little late in celebrating my birthday, so we watched the ABS Nationals bouldering competition and did some damage to a couple of bottles.

 IMAG3188

Block 15 Interstellar Darkness: One of the greatest names for a beer ever, especially when its big brother is Super Nebula. The beer is pretty tasty to boot.

IMAG3190

Drie Fonteinen Oude Geuze Vintage 2007: Synthetic cork, but this bottle had lively carbonation and some serious funk going on. In terms of deliciousness, I would put this around the Drie Fonteinen Armand and Tommy level. Really fucking good, but not quite on the level of the Seasons. A+

H. ertie late Crazy Birthday Beer 2012: This is one of the most unique beers I’ve ever had, there is nothing that I can really compare this to. Raspberries, smoke, tartness, funk, with a very dry finish. My palate was very confused, but quite happy! A+

Block 15 Super Nebula with Coffee: SO MUCH COFFEE. HNNGH.

Drinking in Antwerp!

We met up with some of Europe’s huge tickers (rate beer thingy) at a bar in Antwerp that was opened just for this tasting. God I feel special.

But first, we had to travel through Brussels. So naturally we went to Cantillon. 50N4E was delicious.

So much beer on the Thalys high-speed train…

IMAG1270

Yep, bar is shut. Let’s get started.

IMAG1254

Orval Green: I like this more than Orval, much more crushable.

IMAG1257

Block 15 Peche: Yep, still my favorite peach beer. A+

IMAG1258

This pilsner was garbage. D-

IMAG1259

De Garde Loak: Tasty, but it has a weird flavor going on this time, maybe it’s something to do with this particular bottle. B

IMAG1261

Cantillon 50N4E: Yeah, I really have no problems drinking this multiple times in a week. A+

IMAG1263

H.ertie Framfort 8: This is an incredible Uli blend, the best that I’ve ever had. So much sweet raspberry while maintaining funk and sour along with a nice soft finish is pretty miraculous. Might be the best beer of the whole trip. A++

IMAG1264

Goose Island Proprietors: Yeah, this beer is still fucking amazing. Best variant since Vanilla! A+

IMAG1266

Hair of the Dog Matt: Great change of pace from a bunch of sour beer. A+

IMAG1267

Yep, getting drunk!!!!!

Then we went over to Kulminator…and got smashed.

Drie Fonteinen Hommage: FINALLY TICKED THIS FUCKER YEHHHHHHH! It was absolutely amazing. Best fruited beer I’ve had from Drie Fonteinen! A+
