Sitting round a table and drinking

Since that’s what adults do these days right? Dat millennial life, talking about our $9 avocado sandwiches.

Upright Shades: This is a b1 bottle, so a year or so old? It’s very tasty and not nearly as sour as I remember when it first came out.

Hair of the Dog Bourbon Fred 2012: Yep, I think this is the best beer that HotD has ever made. Maybe once they can carbonate beer again they will return to form.

CARBONATED. BOOM.

TIMBERS WIN!

About time we won a few games in a row! Really had me concerned for a while!

Upright Rose City Seven: This beer is quite old, but as always, Upright ages like a champion. Not as sour as I would like, but incredible floral and dry. What a treat to share with friends after a great soccer game!

Cantillon Fou Foune 2012: Yep, 5 years old and really delicious! Musty with still a good amount of apricots. Ready for a surprise? THIS BEER IS FUCKING SOUR.

When in Costa Rica, drink craft beer

Drink craft beer whenever you aren’t drinking shit out of fruit or stuff with fruit in it.

That’s right, I brought beer all the way from Portland to Guanacaste, Costa Rica.

Friday Nights at Growler Guys

20170217_201822

Whoever the hell made this is one fantastic homebrewer. This is the best homebrew I’ve ever had.

20170217_212559

de Garde Bu Rice: Still tasty, but I think it’s falling off right now purely due to how sour this beer has gotten since it was released.

20170217_213253

de Garde 3rd Anniversary: While Bu Rice deteriorated over time, this beer is getting better. Mmmm.

Upright Heart’s Beat: Here’s another beer that’s improving! Before it wasn’t sour or funky enough, but now the huge cherry bomb is starting to develop some other characteristics. This could easily go a few more years.

Sante Adairius Southern Sunrise: My favorite beer of the evening, and while I think apricots are a better fruit to use in beer than peaches, this beer is easily better than West Ashley in my opinion.

Alesmith Barrel Aged Vietnamese Coffee Speedway: God damn that’s a long name to type out. Whatever, this beer is fantastic. On the other hand, I still think my favorite Speedway variant is just normal Vietnamese Coffee.

Also, don’t spill beer. You might just have to zamboni it.

Block 15 Super Nebula Breakfast with Woodford & Double Chocolate Vanilla Bean: Woodford is way better. The end.

Can’t Stop Drinking

Upright Saison Vert has been a constant in my fridge over the last few months. Sadly though, I’ve drank all my bottles…

I guess it’s time to go back to Upright and grab another case.

Fatali Four

20161222_210140

Upright Fatali Four: Great beer as always, but something was going on with this bottle. It had a bit of a ropey mouthfeel, and was really viscous, almost slimey. Perhaps this bottle caught some sort of pedio bug that hasn’t been cleaned up yet.

A New Upright Beer?!

AAAAAND IT’S A YEAR ROUND BREW!

20161126_194628

Upright Saison Vert: Made with black limes or something like that, this beer reminds me a lot of Hill Farmstead Brother Soigne. At $90 a case and tastes like Soigne? Who’s going to be drinking this one the regs without having to trade beer and ship a case across the country?! THIS GUY!

Mid-week Drinking

100% guaranteed to leave you tired and angry the next day. Worth it? Probably.

A friend’s homebrew that he made for groomsmen :).

dsc_21241

Upright Fatali Four 2014: Yep, this beer ages like a champion. Tons of wine character here with brett, followed by a nice touch of heat on the finish. This beer is basically perfect.

What is this man doing? We may never know.

That behind the scenes glimpse of what it’s like to be a beer geek.

Can’t aruge with the final product though. Uli’s Lambik 3 Fonteinen meets Orval is a spectacular beer, the best lambic I have had since the last time I opened an Armand ‘4 Season. Not all that tart, but tons of funk balanced by citrus, with an interesting finish by what I can only imagine to be the contribution of blending in some old Orval. Uli beers may not always be extremely tasty, but they are always fascinating to try. Thankfully, this beer was both really delicious and super interesting. I’ll take that.

Yes, let’s keep drinking high alcohol stouts. I won’t feel this tomorrow morning at all.

LIESSSS!

Let’s continue the stupidity!

Upright Blend Love: This bottle is from 2013, and just goes to continue to provide evidence that Upright might be the best sour brewery in the US in regards to how their beer behaves over time. Lots of other beers that I’ve had from other breweries get worse over time, but Upright seems to be tastier the older it gets. I don’t have many bottles from them that are older than this, but I wish I did. Fruit, funk, and tartness, all perfectly balanced.

Wrapping Up Indiana Jones

Finished the Last Crusade the evening after starting it. Tonight’s theme was Upright beer. So pathetic right?

dsc_20091 dsc_20101

Upright Flora 2014 & 2016: So just like de Garde, the older beer is tastier, but they have transformed into completely different beasts. The wine finishing and brett character in the older beer is world class, while the new batch is spicy and bone dry. A+ for 2014, A for 2016. Drink this shit, it’s delicious.

Upright 6th Anniversary Saison: Yep, another incredible beer from Upright. I think I’ve started trading for less Hill Farmstead saisons recently because I have a brewery that produces saisons that are just as good and I don’t have to pay an arm and a leg for shipping. God I need to start hoarding these.
